Who we are

ReturnTax ("we", "us") is an Australian online accounting service operated by a registered Tax Agent, ABN 13 917 451 514. We are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

To prepare and lodge tax returns we collect information including:

• Identity and contact details (name, email, phone, address, date of birth)
• Tax identifiers (TFN, ABN, ACN) as permitted under the TFN Rule
• Financial records, including accounting software data you grant us access to
• Information from the ATO relating to your lodgement history and obligations

How we use it

We use your information solely to provide tax agent and related accounting services: preparing and lodging returns and statements, communicating with the ATO on your behalf, and communicating with you about your engagement. We do not sell your information or use it for third-party marketing.

Storage and security

Your information is stored in reputable, access-controlled cloud systems. Access to your accounting software is view-level where possible and can be revoked by you at any time. Tax records are retained as required by law and destroyed or de-identified when no longer required.

Disclosure

We disclose information to the ATO as required to deliver our services, and otherwise only where you authorise it or the law requires it.

This website

Using this website is separate from being a client, and involves a small number of third-party services:

• Google Analytics measures how the site is used: pages viewed, how visitors arrived, and how far they get through our contact and Get Started forms. It sets cookies and receives a truncated version of your IP address. We have turned off Google Signals and ads personalisation, so this data is not used to build advertising profiles.
• Microsoft Clarity records anonymised sessions and heatmaps on our contact and Get Started pages only, so we can see where the forms confuse people. Text you type into form fields is masked and is not captured in these recordings.
• Web3Forms delivers our contact and Get Started form submissions to our inbox. It receives whatever you put in those forms.
• Cloudflare hosts and serves the site and provides privacy-preserving traffic analytics measured at the network level.

None of this is used for advertising and none of it is sold. To opt out of analytics entirely, use your browser's Do Not Track or tracking-protection setting, a content blocker, or Google's own opt-out add-on. The site works normally with all of it blocked.

You can request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@returntax.com.au.

Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us first and we will respond within a reasonable time. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
